About Krieger Forest Wildlife Area

Krieger Forest Wildlife Area encompasses over 4,200 acres of predominantly forested land located in Marinette County, Wisconsin. The area includes a mix of upland hardwoods, conifer swamps, wetlands, and grasslands, providing critical habitat for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, black bear, and numerous waterfowl species. Established as a wildlife management area, Krieger Forest focuses on ecosystem restoration and the enhancement of game and non-game species populations. The landscape is characterized by rolling terrain, seasonal streams, and pockets of young forest growth resulting from active forestry and habitat management practices. Visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational opportunities including hunting during designated seasons, hiking on multiple maintained trails, bird watching, and nature photography. The area’s combination of wetlands and upland forests allows a unique experience for observing Wisconsin’s rich biodiversity. Access points are mostly near small rural highways, and the area is managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Its relatively low visitor density and high quality wildlife habitats make Krieger Forest Wildlife Area an appealing destination for outdoors enthusiasts seeking solitude and wildlife encounters.
